Lancaster completes major roadway project

The Improvements Project at the Avenue J Interchange in Lancaster is officially complete and now fully open to the public.

Among the improvements were widening of existing ramps, upgrades to traffic signals, and two new ramps at Avenue J. This is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the city to enhance safety, mobility, and economic growth.

The project was paid for with funds from Measure R of the city of Lancaster, the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and Caltrans and cost $35 million. The contractor for the project was Granite Construction of Watsonville.

Mayor R. Rex Parris said that this project shows the commitment of the city to making improvements in the infrastructure needed by the city to keep moving forward. He added that the upgrades done as part of this project are critical for the community as they strengthen safety and access and support the vitality of the city.

The updated interchange improves traffic flow and offers expanded capacity which improves access for businesses, residents, and emergency services and reduces traffic congestion. The current needs of the community are better served by this project and will accommodate growth in the future. The project is part of the broader strategy of the city to promote sustainable economic development.
