A groundbreaking ceremony was held by the city of Lancaster for the revitalization of a community park.
The former El Dorado Park has been renamed the Samaritan’s Purse Park to honor the Samaritan’s Purse organization in the city.
Mayor R. Rex Parris said that the park has been an important part of the community for many years. He added that the new life that will be brought to the park and its new name will be a source of inspiration for residents and help to build an active and engaged community.
Parris also said that the renaming of the park demonstrates the dedication of the Samaritan’s Purse, and is a way to teach children the value of compassion and kindness.
The renovation work will include enhancing facilities as well as its overall appeal. Feedback from the community was used so that residents could prioritize the improvements and contribute to the renaming process.
The park is next to El Dorado Elementary School. Among its features are a tennis court, playground, softball field, restrooms, picnic tables, and a preschool room. It was provided to the city by the county when the city was incorporated in 1977.
More details about such features and renovations can be provided to the community through flyer printing.
Work on the renovations of the park is expected to begin this fall. The project is expected to be completed by 2027.
