Lancaster residents will be happy to know that in an effort to boost its number of users, Metrolink has decided to continue its discount ticket programs.
The regional rail service runs through six counties and has as long-distance commuters as its primary customers. Ridership for the line saw steady growth for a few years, but leveled off around 2008 and began following off after that.
With an almost 10% loss in ridership, the rail authority instituted a pilot discount program this summer that increased the number of travelers on its Antelope Valley Line by 10%, and brought 13% more students and youth onto the Metrolink.
Although the increase in passengers did not offset the revenue loss, due to the discounted ticket prices, it did give the rail authority hope that they can find the sweet spot where increased ridership translates to increased revenue.
A brochure printing service to reiterate the advantages of commuting with Metrolink, especially in light of this discount, may prove useful in further increasing ridership
Consequently it is making its student and youth 25% discount permanent. Additionally, it will extend temporarily the same discount which it has been giving travelers on the Antelope Valley Line that connects Lancaster to downtown Los Angeles.
Meanwhile it will continue to evaluate the effect of the discount on its bottom line with a possibility of extending the discounted prices throughout the system.
