Lancaster partners with Direct Energy for power program
Lancaster, California officials have chosen Direct Energy Business to supply electric service for Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), its new power Program.
On May 6, the City of Lancaster initiated phase one of its CCA power program, which includes strong renewable energy options. Phase one also provides fixed energy prices at 3% lower than the standard fees charged by Southern California Edison. Lancaster energy consumers can select from two options: Smart Choice, which for an additional cost provides 100% renewable energy, and Clear Choice, an energy product that delivers 35% renewable energy.
A state policy permitting local governments to select the type, source, and price of energy for their residents, CCA still enables local municipalities to utilize their existing distribution system for power delivery.
Lancaster Choice Energy is the first CCA program enacted by a non-county and is the state’s third largest CCA. Its choice of supplier, Direct Energy Business, is one of the biggest commercial retail energy suppliers with more than 250,000 customers in North America.
Lancaster aims to have a minimum of 25% of its electricity generated from renewable sources by 2016 and at least 33% by 2020 in order to match the California Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS).
Brochure printers can be instrumental in explaining info to citizens, in addition to how CCA fits into the city’s plans to not only meet the state’s mandated standards, but become the country’s first net-zero city.
