Lancaster offers exchange program

Lowes and the Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District (AVAQMD) have teamed up with the city of Lancaster to provide a green opportunity for residents.

People will be able to exchange any lawn equipment powered by gas and receive a credit of up to $275 for electric models. This includes lawn mowers, hedges, chainsaws, and leaf blowers. Equipment can be dropped off at Coast Auto Salvage in Lancaster on Division Street. Hours for drop-off are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. with appointments for exchange being required.

Marvin Crist, Vice Mayor, said that this program will have a tremendous impact on the community. He noted that the city passed an ordinance four years ago requiring commercial vendors in the city to use only electric equipment within five years, and added that such programs help the city to keep its commitment for cleaner air for the community and a cleaner future. More information about initiatives like this is often provided with flyer printing.

The AVAQMD works to achieve and preserve a healthful environment by promoting effective air quality individual and community programs, and supporting economic growth in the region.

The program also provides special discounts on lawn and garden equipment powered by batteries to residents of the Antelope Valley who trade in their gas-powered equipment. This program is available through December 31.
