The city of Lancaster has signed a contract with Heliogen, Inc. to produce hydrogen for purchase by the city to meet its growing needs for the fuel.
Heliogen is a leading provider of solar energy technology enabled by artificial intelligence (AI). This is the first hydrogen offtake agreement of the city.
The Proxima hydrogen facility of Heliogen in Lancaster will produce green hydrogen and will leverage the innovative technology of the company using advanced computer vision software and AI to concentrate sunlight with mirrors. This will produce hydrogen free of carbon with significant potential for economic development. Other projects in the city and region could be supported by the Proxima facility and these might include distribution and sales of hydrogen fuel for industrial processes and the production of sustainable fuel for aviation.

CEO of Heliogen, Christie Obiaya, expressed excitement about creating this strategic relationship with the city of Lancaster and supporting its needs for green hydrogen fuel. Obiaya said that this agreement demonstrates the value of the company’s technology for producing cost-effective green hydrogen, which can accelerate its use around the world.
Designs for a preliminary configuration of the facility and a site for Proxima have been secured by Heliogen.
