Lancaster area wastewater plant nears completion

The district wastewater reclamation plant of Rosamond Community Services District, which serves the city of Lancaster, is nearing completion and may be fully operational soon.

Brach Smith, public works manager, said that the contractor is waiting for parts from vendors.

Steve Perez, general manager, said that as this project is nearing completion, work is starting on plans to expand the administrative offices of the district to provide for more space for emergency preparedness and storage of records. The building was opened in 2004 and was designed for expansion in the future as needed.

The district originally began exploring an expansion of the building in 2019. Perez has started to contact firms for this expansion, which will extend into what is now a parking lot for the staff. He said that the final engineering and architectural plans need to be drawn up. Then there will be a request for proposals. At such times, printing services may be called upon to create such requests to be sent out to potential architects and contractors.

Perez added that he feels it is necessary to move forward with these plans at this time so that the district can be better equipped to address preparedness for disasters of both a natural and heath nature, as the expansion would be for emergency storage supplies and an emergency operations area.
