Lancaster area company plans new solar plant

Construction has begun on a 9.5 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant for SunPower Corp.

The new building will be on property adjacent to the Pearblossom Pumping Plant of the California Department of Water Resources, southeast of Palmdale and just a short distance from Lancaster.

The plant will generate power for the Department and is expected to be in operation by the end of the year. It will be a SunPower Oasis Power Plant system, which is a fully integrated, modular block of solar power that is designed to be able to deploy utility-scale solar projects quickly and efficiently, while also optimizing the use of land.

SunPower may want to invest in Mailing services to let those in the community become aware of the plant and the benefits that will be derived once it is completed.

According to the chief of the State Water Project Power and Risk Office of the California Department of Water Resources, Veronica Hicks, this project is important as it will enable the Department to achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 to 80% below the levels in 1990.

The SunPower president of business units, Howard Wenger added that solar energy is now competitive in price with traditional energy sources and is enabling public agencies to become more fiscally responsible by reducing the costs of electricity to better serve their customers.
