Boys and girls club helps distribute food in Lancaster

Various organizations in the Antelope Valley and Lancaster area are busy distributing food to elementary school children in the region.

Stacey Cantwell, executive director of the Antelope Valley Boys and Girls Club; members of the club; and volunteers are distributing food Boxes to those at Yucca Elementary School. These food Boxes are being donated by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Cantwell said that the Food Bank designated the club to make the Antelope Valley a priority, and she is planning to distribute food to all school districts in the area within the next few weeks.

Cantwell added that the Club has had a longtime relationship with the Food Bank. When asked to help Food Bank get supplies out to those in need, she felt that she could play an important role in coordinating these efforts and preparing theses food packages.

Poster printing is often called upon for such activities to make people aware of their availability.

Cantwell and her team are also working in Lancaster and partnering with the Eastside Union School District and the HELPER Foundation to distribute another 1,200 food Boxes to the Tierra Bonita Elementary School.

The food Boxes weigh between 20 and 35 pounds and include many staple items such as canned fruit and vegetables, meat, beans, rice, and pasta. Groceries are delivered to families by driving to their homes.
