Next month, Banners honoring 14 local soldiers will be displayed along Broad and Columbus streets in Lancaster. The Banners are the idea of Blue Star Mothers Chapter 10 and feature each soldier’s military branch, hometown and picture. The Banners are intended to honor Lancaster’s soldiers and remind people of the sacrifice each of these soldiers has made for the country.

David Uhl, director for Destination Downtown Lancaster, said that the Blue Star Mothers approached the city about the Banners last year. The idea was inspired from a similar project that a chapter of Blue Star Mothers in California.
Mr Uhl commented while the city typically does not place flags and Banners in honor of specific individuals, they wanted to honor the soldiers and recognize the local chapter of Blue Star Mothers. The street department, which is scheduled to hang other Banners early next month, has agreed to hang the Banners in honor of the local soldiers at the same time. They will be placed along Broad and Columbus streets early in May and will remain on display until November.
