Downey, California, is about 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The city has a strong connection to the aerospace industry - Vultee Aircraft had a plant here during the Second World War. North American Aviation, which became North American Rockwell, took over Vultee. The company then became Rockwell International, and was finally purchased by Boeing. In addition to industry, Downey is famous for its various pop culture connections. The third-oldest McDonald’s in the chain, and the oldest surviving store, is here, as is the first-ever Taco Bell.
