A popular annual event is on the schedule again in Downey.
The Greek Food Festival in Downey is traditionally held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church on Downey Avenue. The delicious event is a celebration of Greek food of all kinds, and spans two days. Downey has always been known for having a diverse population, and it has a sizeable number of residents of Greek and Cuban descent.
Festival organizers say their popular “Lambs on a spit” will be available, along with drinks, and live Greek music. The event is planned to include everyone in the family, as a special Kids Zone will be set up with prizes, games, and carnival-style rides.
People who have attended this festival in the past say it is the best in the area, featuring homemade food that is truly delicious. Whole lambs and chickens are cooked on spits outside (the “Lambs on a spit”) and the aroma is the signature of the event. Among the other items people can enjoy are stuffed grape leaves, gyros, moussaka, and the traditional dessert baklava, all of which drew raves from reviewers.
Attendees were also pleased by the generous portions, and by the fact that admission to the festival is only $2, though the food must be purchased separately.
The Greek Food Festival is set for September 18 and 19. Banner printing can be used to create Signs to label the vendors at outdoor events like this.
