Children in Downey will be able to take part in a giveaway soon.
Gangs Out of Downey (GOOD) will be giving away Backpacks for free to Downey children. There is even live music planned at the end of the event.
GOOD is a non-profit organization run by volunteers from throughout the city who want to make a positive difference in the life of Downey residents. As the name implies, GOOD’s main mission is to make sure gangs do not come into Downey. To accomplish this goal, GOOD focuses on ways to keep young people from joining gangs in the first place, and in addition, provides funding and resources to help in the effort. Among GOOD’s programs are scholarships, an annual lunch, a golf tournament, and the backpack giveaway.
GOOD focuses many of its outreach efforts in the community on breaking the cycle of gang membership within the family unit and dissuading at-risk young people from joining a gang. GOOD believes that if they can break one cycle of gang membership, the impact will be generational and impact both the individual and their family. Organizers of events like this can use brochure printing to explain their mission as well as discussing the event itself, such as a description of the band.
The Backpack Giveaway is set for August 7, from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm at Golden Park on Golden Street.
