Downey youth workshop to teach scientific method

The City of Downey and the Columbia Memorial Space Center will host a new educational workshop in February for children called the Methodical Minds Workshop.

The workshop is designed from inquisitive minds ages 6 to 7 and will encourage both creative thinking and methodical methods. The main topic this workshop will explore is the scientific method from the perspective of child curiosity, offering activities that will appeal to both the artistic mindset and the logical one.

Instructors of the workshop will present material that facilitates creative freedom within the scientific method and will offer activities that students can actively participate in. Students will work on fun experiments where their decisions inform the results, and while the instructors will guide the event, the learners will have control over the processes. These activities will include a take-home art project using the pH scale and cabbages to make colors, growing a gummy worm, and more intriguing science-based fun.

Educational workshops like this, especially those targeted towards children, will often include printed teaching materials involving vibrant graphics, such as Posters, that will facilitate the learning process. Local Print shops offering poster printing can help organizers with providing these materials.

The Methodical Minds Workshop will take place on Saturdays beginning on February 8. The Columbia Memorial Space Center can be found at 12400 Columbia Way. Class fees start at $20.
