Downey workshop to teach kids sculpting basics

Downey parents should note that the Creative Sculpture Camp will be held at the end of July and into August for young children.

The City of Downey and Parker-Anderson will present the Creative Sculpture Camp for local children to teach the principles of sculpture and allow them to explore new and interesting creative media. A range of experienced teachers will oversee the camp, including the enrichment staff from Parker-Anderson.

During the sculpture camp, students will learn how to make multimedia sculptures, mosaics, and figurines. They will also learn about famous sculptors, such as Walter Furlan, Kenneth Price, and Jeffrey Koons. In addition to the class registration fee, there will also be a $35 materials fee that will be due to the head instructor at the beginning of the camp week.

After camp is finished, parents are encouraged to bring their children to Playground Adventures, which is a free recreational program provided by the City of Downey Parks and Recreation for children ages 6 to 12.

Posters are often featured as a teaching tool in classes and camps geared towards children. Organizers needing to Print such materials may visit Print shops offering poster printing services.

The sculpture class is scheduled for July 31 through August 4. It will take place at Golden Park, which is located at 8840 Golden Avenue. Class registration is $189.
