Downey plans recycling event

Downey officials are encouraging residents to recycle two of the most difficult substances to dispose of properly – used oil and the used oil filter.

The City of Downey is holding an event soon at which residents will be given brand-new oil filters when they recycle their used filters. As long as supplies last, residents may receive as many as two filters absolutely free when they turn in two used ones.

The coordinator of Downey's Used Oil Recycling Program, Kevin Sales, notes that both used oil filters and used oil are recyclable, and the city wants to encourage do-it-yourselfers to take advantage of the offer to bring in their used oil and filters after their next oil change. The oil itself will be recycled, as will the steel from the filter. Drivers who turn in the used materials will receive a voucher they can exchange immediately for their new filters, which will be supplied by AutoZone.

There will be a free container for recycling oil available at the event as long as supplies last, along with supplementary materials to educate attendees about recycling. Downey officials are encouraging everyone who can to take part in the event.

The filter exchange is set for February 1, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at the AutoZone on Paramount Boulevard. Flyer printing is a good method to use when preparing informative materials for events like this.
