Downey area workshop to empower women with self-defense

Next month, Embodied Paths will be holding the Women’s Self-Defense Workshop in Norwalk, not far from Downey, to help area women attain self-defense techniques.

Embodied Paths is owned and run by Jen Franklin, an instructor of yoga and kenpo karate, as well as a message therapist. She combines these three different paths into Embodied Paths to help make a difference in the community. Embodied Paths offers trauma-informed yoga classes, 60-to-90-minute massage sessions, and women’s self-defense workshops.

The workshop in June will go over basic hand-to-hand defenses and training in nonlethal weapons. The two-hour class will not just provide demonstrations, but it will also take an interactive approach and allow participants to practice basic strikes and combinations on training Bags. Jennifer Lester, or Stun Gun Jen, from Independent Damsel in Defense will also show the class how to properly use pepper spray, stun guns, and pressure point tools.

Defense workshops such as this often include Posters and diagrams as visual teaching aids to help guide the class through the lesson. These materials can be printed using local poster printing services.

The women’s self-defense class is scheduled for June 25 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. It will take place at Z-Ultimate Self Defense Studios, located at 12521 Alondra Boulevard, Norwalk, just six miles from Downey. A “justice” pricing structure applies, meaning participants are asked to pay a price that suits their circumstances.
