Downey announces summer concert series

Summer in Downey brings back the city's Concerts in the Park, and the city has announced this year's lineup.

The concerts are held in Furman Park, and all shows start at 7:00 pm. Attendees should bring chairs or blankets, but umbrellas or pop-up shade devices are not allowed. Dogs can come along too, provided they are on a leash.

The first group on the schedule is Atlantic Crossing, a Rod Stewart tribute band based in Huntington Beach.

Next up is Knyght Ryder, who play the hits from the 1980s and 1990s, concentrating on heavy metal, rock, and new wave.

The next performance will be the 10-piece ensemble Suavé the Band, which plays Latin music as well as R&B, swing, rock, and jazz.

The following week brings the Downey Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Sharon Lavery. The orchestra will offer a selection of film and Broadway tunes to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

The final concert will be by the Third Marine Aircraft Wingband, which will play a wide variety, including everything from Broadway, hits to marches, to concert music.

All these acts appear on Wednesdays between June 20 and July 26, although there will be no performance on July 4. Events like this can be even get greater publicity if organizers consult a banner printing company to help decorate the venue.
