The Bakersfield community recently rallied round to help the Sea Cadets replace items taken in a recent theft.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) is a nationwide program for young adults. Founded in 1962, it aims to help young students by presenting a favorable image of the Navy. The program also offers scholarships to universities for deserving Cadets.
The storage facility used by the Bakersfield Sea Cadets was obtained primarily to store uniforms, which were needed by the students for official cadet business.
With the help of 2nd Class Petty Officer Eugene Smith, the community set into action to collect funds to help the students replace the items that were stolen. Smith set up a Facebook and Go Fund Me page to get the word out, and was able to obtain donations from fellow Navy Veterans, residents, and businesses to help out the Sea Cadets.
Smith, who was not aware that the area had Sea Cadets until the break-in, was also able to surprise the group of cadets with a dinner fundraiser. At this event, he was able to present the group with a check for $1,500 to replace the uniforms.
Local business and the cadets could benefit from the services of printing companies to spread the word of any future fundraising needs via Posters and flyer printing.Get a Free Quote for Posters
