Bakersfield is living up to its name, with Girl Scout cookie season now upon us.
The yearly Mega Drop of Girl Scout cookies took place in Bakersfield on January 31, marking the beginning of cookie sale season for the group. Three small truckloads of cookies arrived in the parking lot of the East Hills Mall and dozens of vehicles were on hand to load up Boxes of cookies to begin selling on February 1. Later this month, the girls will be selling the treats from storefronts.
According to the Kern County Girl Scout funding development director, Pamela Mann, ordering for the 69 individual troops in the county is being handled differently this year. In previous years a specific number of boxes were preordered by each troop. This year, if girls need more than they have estimated, extra cookies can be picked up from a storage unit called the “cookie pantry”, which is located in southwest Bakersfield.
Last year, 328,041 boxes of cookies were sold by around 2,500 Girl Scouts in Kern County; 240,899 of those boxes were purchased in Bakersfield. Thin mints are the most popular variety, making up about 25% of sales.
Starting February 20 and continuing through March 22, Scouts will be selling cookies at the front of high street stores. As well as being published on the Girls Scouts website, locations could be advertised in advance via a flyer or banner printing service.Get a Free Quote for Boxes
