Nonprofit assisting with flying adoptable dogs to Idaho

Bakersfield Animal Care center recently announced that it is working with a nonprofit animal rescue company, Dog is My CoPilot, to bring the surplus of available dogs from Bakersfield to Idaho for adoption.

Dog is My CoPilot, Inc. is an air transport organization that was founded in 2012 by Peter Rork. The organization has saved more than 5,000 animals. The nonprofit does not charge for flights to rescue dogs, but relies solely on donations made to the organization. It takes on many volunteer opportunities including helping rescue dogs that are stranded after natural disasters such as flooding.

Animal shelters are constantly dealing with overcrowded adoption kennels and often distribute flyers to residents to notify them of available adoptions. Due to a saturation of breeding dogs in the area, the shelter has had to resort to out-of-state adoptions.

This most recent effort will take dogs out of overcrowded shelters to their new home at various locations in Idaho, including McPaws Regional Animal Shelter, Idaho Humane Society, and Animal Shelter of Wood River valley.

The trip to Idaho will involve transporting mixed breed pit bulls and Chihuahuas. Rork is hoping that he will be able to provide monthly flights to help the city with adoption of pets, with each flight can carrying from 40 to 150 animals. The nonprofit is located in Wyoming and flies to most Western states.
