Bakersfield hikers may enjoy the five upcoming Wind Wolves Preserve Night Hikes coming at the end of July, and into August and September.
The experiences will be after dark, and hikers will learn about the preserve’s nocturnal life. The hikes will be about two miles along the San Emigdio Canyon Trail, and participants can expect some uphill terrain. The hikes are recommended for hikers over the age of seven. Admission has been limited to 70 participants and everyone is to meet at the front gate half an hour before the scheduled hike.
Guests are to wear layered clothing, long pants, jackets, and closed-toed shoes. They will also need flashlights and water.
Although the hikes will be free, guests must make reservations up to two weeks before each event by calling the preserve. Up to five people may register at one time. The events will be cancelled if the weather is unsuitable.
Large corporations, especially those connected to the event, often donate monetary Corporate Gifts to non-profit conservancies such as the Wildland Conservancy, which owns and stewards the Wind Wolves Preserve.
The two-hour Wind Wolves Preserve Night Hikes will take place Saturday, July 29 beginning at 8:00 pm; Saturday, August 12 at 7:30 pm; and Friday, August 25 at 7:30 pm. Two hikes starting at 7:00pm are also planned, with their dates being Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 23.
