Bakersfield residents will soon be able to view miniature pickup trucks artistically painted for a fall exhibit sponsored by the Bakersfield Museum of Art.
The 33 trucks that will be on display were painted by local artists varying in experience from professional, to middle school aged children. The artists, inspired from the sites around Bakersfield, hand painted the trucks with the help of various sponsors who donated funds for the event.
The event is part of an effort to celebrate Bakersfield’s diamond anniversary. City councilman, Bob Smith, who is one of the sponsors for a truck, indicated they have struggled to find sponsors willing to contribute. The city is hoping this display excites the community and brings sponsors to the forefront. The miniature vehicles will be on display at the Bakersfield Museum of Art from September 19 through October 2. At this point, the exhibit will wrap up with ‘Truck-a-Palooza’ – an event where local children can view the art trucks, create art of their own, and enjoy tasty treats from food trucks.
Following that, the vehicles will be on display in and around Bakersfield. Maps will be available to show residents and visitors the locations where the vehicles are parked. The trucks will be on display at these locations from October 7 through January 6.
