The Jingle Bell Club provided gifts to first grade students at two Bakersfield elementary schools, College Heights and Di Girogio Elementary, just before Christmas.
This year’s recipients, which included over 200 students, were presented with their gifts on December 21st.
The Jingle Bell club was created by Dr. Sudhir Patel who, through recollections of being the recipient of gifts through a local organization as a child, decided to form the foundation to help area first graders. Dr. Patel is a neonatologist who is supported in his efforts by his wife and other neonatology practitioners.
Dr. Patel has mainly been the provider of funds for this effort, but has recently kicked off a fundraiser in the hope of being able to spread the joy to other elementary schools. Local businesses could help support Dr. Patel by hanging Flyers to promote fundraising events to raise awareness of the foundation’s efforts.
This year, the students were taken to Lloyd’s Aviation, which is located at the Meadows Field Airport. Along with support from Lloyds Aviation, the students were treated to lunch donated by Outback Steakhouse and were also able to participate in a Mead Johnson-sponsored cookie decoration activity.
Each child was presented with a stocking that contained a variety of goodies, along with a pair of shoes in their size, a toy, and a sweatshirt. The shoe sizes were determined through activities from teachers of the students who creatively came up with a way to obtain the child’s shoe size.
