The fueling station is used by the Kern County fleet of school buses, among others who have switched to the increasingly popular fuel.
The contract for expanding the station, which serves both public and private clients, includes installing updates such as new fueling dispensers and hoses, new state-of-the-art compressors, and a canopy. When upgraded, the station will have two dispensers, as well as ample lighting.
Supervisor Scott Fieber, Superintendent of Schools Energy Conservation for Kern County, explained a need for the updates, saying:
“Since the original station’s construction in 2005, we’ve gone from 10 buses to 60. We’ve just outgrown the existing station by all shapes and Forms.”
Additionally, Fieber pointed to the increase in types of vehicles fueling, as well as numbers using the fueling station. Corporate clients are sending more than 100 trucks to fuel at the CNG station in addition to new garbage trucks using the fuel.
