Thanks to the success of last year's event, the Friends of the Kern County Animal Shelters Foundation is once again throwing an Applause for Paws fundraiser.
The event, to take place at the Masonic Temple here in Bakersfield, will use the money it raises to further its mission to help Kern County animals.
The group was formed to help the local animal shelter with expenses not included in its budget, but grew to provide medical care as well as spay and neuter vouchers. According to Judi Daunell, the group's president, in 2013 vouchers for 540 cats and 1,297 dogs were distributed.
Applause for Paws features dinner, three high-profile comedians, a silent auction, and the opportunity to take part in raffles. Although last year's event was not a sell-out, the group raised $6,300. This year, the hope is that all 240 tickets will be snatched up by those wanting to combine an evening of fun with the opportunity to help our county's animals in need.
Applause for Paws take place on June 14th. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7:30pm. The cost is $30 per person or $50 per couple.
