A taste of the ultimate comfort food is coming to Bakersfield. The first of what is likely to be an annual event, the Bakersfield Macaroni and Cheese Festival will take place this weekend at the CSU Bakersfield Amphitheater.
No fewer than 15 chefs will be on hand with their own best version of this timeless classic. In addition to the mac-and-cheese, other food and drink will be available.
The chefs will be competing for prizes with attendees voting on their favorites. Several local wineries and breweries will be at the event, as will numerous vendors. Included in the ticket price are 1oz mac-and-cheese samples (up to 2lb worth), wine, beer, and liquor tasting, and a souvenir wine glass. Additional wine, beer and spirits will be available for purchase. There will be corn hole tournaments and music for entertainment, and, since eating only mac-and-cheese does not constitute a balance diet, kettle corn and Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream will be available as well.
Guests should bring their appetite, lounge chairs, blankets, and inner child, but are asked not to bring drinks, food, weapons, umbrellas, or children. Everyone's ID will be checked before entering. A free shuttle service will provide a pick-up and drop-off service from the parking lot. This event shows promise of becoming a perennial favorite, but a flyer printing service could help to remind the public when it rolls around in future years.
The event will be held from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm this Saturday, April 12.
