Bakersfield walks and runs through October

Fitness enthusiasts and those who just like to run or walk for fun will have a couple of fundraising opportunities to do so in October.

Everyone can join in the virtual 2020 Bakersfield Walk Like MADD 5k Run/Walk. Participants will be posting their 5k pictures and videos on MADD California webpage, Instagram, and Facebook starting October 3. The weeklong fundraiser will culminate Saturday, October 10 from noon until 1:00 pm on the MADD website. The goal for this year’s event is $55,000.

The CASA Superhero Run has also gone virtual this year. Participants are invited to don their superhero costumes and walk or run a 10K, 5K, or 2K distance at their own time and location. Until September 30, registration will be $30, and from October 1 until October 31, the fee will be $35.

Adults will receive medals and T-Shirts sporting the event graphic design, and kids will get capes and medals.

Contests that will be held virtually this year will be the Mascot Dance-off, and pictures of best costume, finish line picture, and best scenery along the running route. Pictures of costumed pets can also be entered into a special contest and/or taken to local Stationery printers to be included in family yearly Calendars.

Proceeds from the CASA Superhero Run will go to help Kern County’s neglected and abused children.
