Bakersfield plans day of running events

Runners from Bakersfield and across California may be interested in taking on the Bakersfield Marathon coming in early April.

Along with the marathon, the event will offer a half marathon, 10k, and a 6k that will take runners through Downtown Bakersfield. Registration for the marathon will be $150, while the half marathon will be $120, the 10k will be $80, and the 6k will cost $60. Kids running the 6k can run for $25. ‘Virtual registrations’ are available for those who are unable to attend but would still like to support the event and are priced at $50 for all distances.

Organizers of this type of event will often include gender-specific runner shirts sporting the race’s graphic design, finisher medallions, personalized bibs, and admission to the post-race festival as part of the registration.

A Health and Fitness Expo will take place at the Kern Museum from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, April 6. Race participants may pick up their packs at that time, or the next morning at 5:30am during same-day registration.

The full marathon will begin at 7:00am Sunday, April 7 at the Kern Museum, followed by the half marathon at 7:15am, the 10K at 7:30am, and the 6k at 7:45am. The festival and the food area will open at 8:00am and the beer garden will open at 8:30am. Once all races are completed, the festival area will close at 3:30pm.
