Bakersfield kids have own festival

Bakersfield Kidsfest is coming in mid-May. Tweens, children, toddlers, and babies will be entertained while parents and caregivers learn about how to raise healthy and happy kids.

Over 25 booths ranging from Urgent Care and Extreme Youth Athletics and Golden Empire Football to My Gym Child Fitness Center, Califia Farms, and John’s Incredible Pizza will be selling their goods and services. Nonprofits such as CA Highway Patrol, Bakersfield Police Department, Advanced Center for Eyecare, the Kern County Museum, and the Buena Vista Museum will also be on hand passing out Business Cards and discussing their missions and programs.

Activities for the younger set include six water slides, face painting, a racing derby, a bungee joust, and Happy Birds. There will also be a six-game world champion sports area, basketball challenge, giant soccer goal, and a 27-foot obstacle course. Kids can enjoy the Funland Express Train, Hot Shot Skee Ball, and the Dual Lane Slip N Slide. Ron Saylor will be demonstrating his magic skills and music will be provided by DJ Wreck.

The Wee Expo will feature hands-on activities for zero-to-five-year olds. Kids can play in the cardboard castle, kitchen, cars, and rockets. There will also be three bounce houses.

Vendors such as Ben and Jerry’s, Carnie Kettle Corn, Kona Ice, and Bliss Cookie Dough will be selling food, candy and drinks for the kids.

Kidsfest will be Saturday, May 18 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at Kern County Museum’s Pioneer Village, 3801 Chester Avenue.
