Bakersfield holds holiday events

Bakersfield will be celebrating 2020 Thanksgiving with a run, and Christmas with a parade and holiday town.

Turkey Day Run has been scheduled for Thanksgiving morning. Proceeds will go to CAPK Food Bank here in town.

The 5K will be timed, while the Fun 2K will not. Amenities will include a four-inch pie to each finisher, and long sleeve shirts sporting a Thanksgiving graphic design. Awards will go to the largest family, best music, best costumes, and winners in each age group.

Turkey Day Run will start at 7:00 am on Thursday, November 26 at the Park at River Walk, 11200 Stockdale Highway. This event should wind down around 2:00 pm. The 2020 Bakersfield Christmas Parade committee has decided to put this year’s parade online using a video format.

This year’s theme will be Movies of Christmas, for which entry closes tomorrow. Entry overseers must fill out and submit applications, send up to 90-second videos, and make payment. Selection will be based on balance of categories and interpretation of theme. On November 12, emails will be sent to those units that have been accepted. The 2020 Parade will start at 6:00 pm on 23ABC media platforms including the 23ABC App, Amazon Firestick, Roku and Facebook.

Bakersfield Christmas Town opens November 29 and closes January 4, 2021. Activities include a Christmas tree lighting, hayride, sledding, skating, and Santa’s Cozy Cottage. Christmas Town is located in Pioneer Village, at Kern County Museum, 3901 Chester Avenue.
