The Third Annual California Medieval Festival will be coming later in April.
The festival will feature men, women and children costumed as peasants, merchants and soldiers in an aura of medieval times. Event organizers tout that this will be educational and family-oriented entertainment.
Merchants will be hawking jewelry, clothing, food, swords, and crafts. Under the Black Flag will be demonstrating the art of sword fighting, and the Badland Bucaneers will also have demonstrations and three live sword battles. The Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation will hold fencing demonstrations and spectators will be able to participate using the foundation’s equipment.
There will be contests galore with cash awards for winners. These will include a rock wall, tug-o-war, weightlifting, and costume contests.
Music will be provided by singer/songwriter Kris Colt, and Joust Kidding is a medieval band that will be playing in the food court area.
A selection of stuntmen will be performing in a World Tournament of Champions. These actors will be putting on a jousting show using eight horses. A queen will be presiding over the event on a stage in the 60’ by 60’ eight-turreted, 18-feet-high castle.
Capt. Dogfish Briggins will be on hand for pictures. Kids enjoy his backdrops and colorful birds, and his Calendars may make for fitting Corporate Gifts.
The Medieval California Festival will be April 21 from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm at the Kern County Fairgrounds, Bakersfield.
