Bakersfield goes to the fair

It is about time for the Kern County Fair.

Performances at the Bud Pavilion will include Walker Hayes, The Guess Who, Michael Ray, Monica, and Jesus Ojeda y sus Parientes. Other concerts at the pavilion will include Jim Ranger, Maddie and Tae, Sean Kingston, Smash Mouth, and Grupo Siggno.

Free attractions at the Bakersfield event will include Little Cowboys, Mind Works, Magic of Frank Thurston, Sweet Caribbean Music, and the Wilder Show. Animal shows on offer are the likes of the Great American Duck Races, All Star Stunt Dog Challenge, and the All Alaskan Racing Pigs.

The Main Plaza, Villa Festiva, and Frontier stages will present over 20 performers during 12 evenings.

Special admission on Wednesday, September 29 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm will be Feed the Need. Admission will be granted in exchange for five or more canned food items, which will go to the Kern Food Bank. School Days will also be on that day. Special events for that day include Mind Works, Slim and Curly, and Magic of Frank Thurston. The KC Loop will also feature the duck and pig races.

More than 20 adult and youth competitive exhibits will include baked goods, culinary arts, dolls, agriculture mechanics, and fine arts.

Winners in competitions like this often have pictures taken of themselves, their entries, and awards. These often go to local Print shops to be made into duplicates for family and friends.

Kern County Fair will run from September 22 to Oct 3 at the fairgrounds, 1142 South P Street.
