The first Annual Kern County Living History and Military Festival will take place in a few days.
The festival will feature over 2,000 reenactors bringing many historical eras to life, including period encampments, training exercises, battle reenactments, and period trades. These will include present day military, WWI and WWII, medieval knights, Romans, and Vikings.
There will be historical displays such as weapons, and vehicles such as tanks, antique engines and emergency vehicles. Caricatures of historical figures such as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Robert E. Lee, and Teddy Roosevelt will be meeting attendees.
Food vendors will be on hand serving popular food items. Military and period vendors and artisans will sell their wares. Musicians will be presenting period music played on period instruments.
A special Civil War Soldiers Dinner and Dance will be on the Saturday evening from 6:15 pm until 10:30 pm. Guests will be able to converse with living historians and perform period dances under the direction of a caller. The music will be reminiscent of the Civil War era and will be provided by a band that would have been popular during that period.

The event will be at the Kern County Fair and Event Center, 1142 South P Street, this Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7.
