Bakersfield nature enthusiasts will be heading outdoors in mid-March for the Wind Wolves Preserve 6th Annual Spring Nature Festival. Guest experts and Wind Wolves Preserve staff will provide outdoor activities such as wildflower and wildlife viewing and hikes.
The Tejon Indian Tribe will present a clapper stick demonstration. Afterwards, members of Native Californian tribes will provide a workshop where guests can construct their own percussion instruments.
Reptile Talk will take place both days at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. The half-hour talk will discuss behavior and varieties of snakes, and guests will get to touch some of the snakes and meet tortoises.
The Raptors, Falcons and Hawks show will run continuously from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday and 10:00 am until 2:30 pm Sunday. The show will discuss differences, flying, feathers, sizes, and local species.
At Pond Discovery, guests can explore the pond, catch tadpoles, and take part in hands-on activities, while Restoration Station will have native plants that can be planted in Mesquite Grove.
Wildland’s Conservancy booths will offer face painting, animal skull identification, information, pond discovery, reptiles, nature crafts, and a virtual reality cave experience. A total of 15 local clubs, museums, and societies will have exhibits. Representatives will be passing out information, Business Cards, and discussing their missions, programs, and services.
San Emigdio Canyon Sunset Theater will conclude Saturday’s activities with a family-friendly film.
The Wind Wolves Preserve Spring Nature Festival will take place at the Preserve 16019 Maricopa Highway on March 16 and 17.
