As Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, local ghosts and goblins will have a couple of events from which to choose the Saturday before.
On Saturday, October 30th beginning at 10:00 am, CASA of Kern County will hold its annual Superhero Run. Proceeds will go to help neglected and abused children. Runners will be donning their superhero costumes and capes and heading out on 2k, 5k or 10k runs.
The event will also include a costume contest, food and merchandise vendors, local celebrity Dunk tank and a mascot dance-off.
T-Shirts and medals sporting the CASA Superhero graphic design, and swag Bags will come with the $40 preregistration and $45 race day registration. This year’ capes can be purchased online.
The event will take place at the Park at River Walk.
Kern Kiwanis will hold their first annual Cornhole Tournament that afternoon from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The tournament will provide support of education, mentoring and hunger needs of Bakersfield children.
Play will be round-robin style. Top three winners from both the seeded lower ($300, $200, $100) and upper brackets ($600, $500, $400) will receive cash prizes. $150 dollar prizes will go to the highest placing Bakersfield Resident and women’s teams. Team registration is $75.
The event will also have food, family entertainment, beverages and cornhole vendors.
Kern Kiwanis Cornhole Tournament will be at Stramler Park, 4003 Chester Avenue.
