Bakersfield among fastest growing cities in state and country
Bakersfield, according to a recently released Census Bureau report, is the fastest growing city in California, which itself is among the fastest growing states in the U.S.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans are increasingly choosing to live in cities, and large ones are often their preference. Both large and small cities in California are among the fastest growing and increasingly populated cities in the country.
Information such as this is extremely important to investors, companies looking to relocate, and individual families considering a move. For this reason, cities are always interested in requesting that their print company includes this type of information in promotional material for the city.
Incorporated cities are home to almost two thirds of the U.S. population, with the Western states having the highest percentage of city dwellers (76.4%). Among cities with at least 100,000, three California cities made the top 10 of cities with the largest population increase during the time span 2000 to 2010: Fontana, Irvine, and Bakersfield at 52.1%, 48.4%, and 40.6% respectively.
At 90%, the top city with a population in excess of 100,000 was Gilbert, Arizona. Among midsized American cities, California’s Elk Grove, a Sacramento suburb, took top honors with a 155.1%. Another of the state capital’s suburbs was the country’s fastest-growing small city; Lincoln, California grew by 282.1%.
