Annual Human Society event being held in Bakersfield

The Human Society’s nationwide World Spay Day is held on every February. This year, the Kern County Animal Services (KCAS) in Bakersfield will be participating in the event to help lower income families with the costs of spaying and neutering their pets.

The service is being offered to residents living in Kern County’s unincorporated parts. KCAS will provide a limit of 100 appointments for eligible residents. Those participating will need to pay a $15 copay, but each family is allowed surgery for up to four pets.

World Spay Day is an annual event that is promoted by the Human Society’s offices of the United States and International, as well as the Human Society Veterinary Medical Association. Information in the form of flyers or pamphlets is likely to help promote participation in the hopes of cutting down the population of stray and unwanted animals.

KCAS is also offering half price vouchers for qualified income-verified residents as well. The cost of the vouchers is $10. If its goals are achieved, KCAS hopes to offer 300 surgeries between the appointments on World Spay Day and the vouchers.

Kern County Animal Services is located at 3951 Fruitvale Ave in Bakersfield. Those interested in more information should call 661-868-7100 to find out more. The date of the event is Tuesday, February 28.
