Gilbert locals with a love of bluegrass should get ready for a memorable evening of banjo plucking and guitar strumming, later this month.
The local Lions Club will be hosting the Gilbert Bluegrass Bash this month—its 5th Annual Bluegrass Spectacular. This event is to make the public aware of the many services that the local Lion’s Club offers.
John Lewis, Gilbert’s mayor, will once again be the Master of Ceremonies. Entertainment will be provided by Titan Valley Warheads and the Sonoran Dogs. The latter is a bluegrass group composed of Peter McLaughlin on guitar and vocals, Tyler James on banjo, Mark Miracle on mandolin and vocals, and Brian Davies, who is a dentist turned bass player. The group has been together since 2011 and has headlined folk and bluegrass festivals throughout Arizona and California.
The Titan Valley Warheads hail from Tucson with members Earl Edmonson on guitar, Gary Kuitert on mandolin, Tom Rhodes on fiddle, Ed Davenport on bass, and Andy McCune on banjo. This five-man group has won awards such as the Tucson Area Music Awards’ Best Bluegrass Band and Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s award for ‘Best Band’. Printing companies will have a hard time finding better subjects for poster printing than these.
The musical event will be held January 17, at 7:00 pm at Gilbert High School Auditorium, 1101 E. Elliot Road, Gilbert.
