Many of the crafts people who work with wood in the Gilbert area will be heading to the 35th annual Desert Woodcarving Show & Sale coming toward the end of February.
Judging will be open to all skill levels in wood carving, fine woodworking, wood sculpture and carving in other mediums. Three judges will evaluate Open Intermediate and Advanced carvings, and another three-judge panel will evaluate woodworking projects. Carving done by youth and novice carvers will also be evaluated for awards. All judges will be looking for design, originality, skill, surface finish and artistry.
Many participants will be selling their works and vendors will be on hand selling carving supplies and tools.
Two whittling contests - one Saturday from 1:15 pm to 2:00 pm and the other Sunday from 12:15 to 1:00 pm will award Gift Certificates to first place, second place and third place winners.
The show will have seminars, and five or six demonstrations but the topics have not been announced yet. There will be a raffle with five or six prizes donated by well-known carvers. Proceeds from the raffle go to covering event expenses.
