Gilbert to make a healthy start to the year

One way for Gilbert locals to get a start on their New Year’s resolutions is to sign up and participate in the Commitment Day Festival and Fun Run, a 5k run and/or walking family-friendly event that provides a healthy forum for starting 2016.

The Commitment Day event is part of a larger effort by people across the country. It is meant to start a movement, quite literally, to get people off the couch and outside doing something that burns off calories, builds muscle, and improves overall cardiovascular health. The local event is being sponsored by Life Time Fitness, and people of all ages are encouraged to participate.

Participates are required to register in advance. Each will get a number for pasting on their chests, a T-shirt, and an opportunity to participate in an awards ceremony if they place well. Those that plan to run or walk should be prepared to dress for the weather and may wish to invite friends or family members. Those that intend to watch may want to have banner printing done to support others who are participating.

The event will begin and end at Life Time Fitness and will take place Thursday, January 1. Registration will begin at 10:00 am, and the run/walk will officially start at 11:00 am at 381 E Warner Road, Gilbert. The cost to register will be $20, although kids under 13 can participate for free.
