Gilbert to host inaugural Off the Street event

Later this month, the Town of Gilbert Parks and Recreation Department will be having its first ‘Off the Street’ Art Festival.

The one-day event will offer residents here in Gilbert a chance to get outdoors and enjoy a day of art demonstrations, street performances, and other Forms of live entertainment. Over 3,000 people are expected to attend.

Craftspeople and artisans will be vending their creations. Retail vendors will be selling their wares as well. Information vendors will be passing out informative Flyers and literature. Sponsors of the event will get booth space, media coverage, and a spot on the event banner. Local food vendors will be on the premises too.

Artists have been selected by committee to create chalk murals on the sidewalks during the day. They will have six hours to complete their work. Each artist will incorporate their sponsor’s logo or name somewhere in the artwork. The chalk will be pastels only and a box of 20 colors will be provided by the festival. These artists will be hired professionals who receive $300 honorariums, refreshments during their performances, and event T-Shirts. Kids’ art activities will allow children opportunities to be creative too.

The festival is slated for October 29 and will run from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm. It will be in the Gilbert Heritage District, Downtown Gilbert.
