Gilbert invited for tacos

Next month, Gilbert’s neighbor Chandler will be holding its fifth annual Rockin’ Taco Street Fest. The event will be a cultural, musical, and culinary celebration.

Creative tacos will be the theme of the event. A dozen local restaurants will be offering the Mexican fare containing shrimp, fish, carne asada (steak), carnitas (pork), veggies, or chicken. Along with the tacos guests can also purchase elote (Mexican sweet corn on the cob), fresh fruit fresca, and other refreshments. Desserts will be churros (fried pastries), palettas (Mexican frozen treats), and Mexican candies.

Other highlights will include Lucha Libre Wrestling, live entertainment such as ballet folklorico dancing, and a low-rider car show, not to mention the Chihuahua races. There will be competitions in salsa and taco eating. ‘Niños’ can enjoy a piñata party and their own play zone.

The City of Chandler may want to have a photographer or two at the event to get pictures for its Tourist Guide Brochures for next year.

Although admission will be $8 online and $10 at the event, some may want to consider purchasing the $65 VIP tickets. These will include drinks, private restrooms, catered food from one of Chandler’s local Mexican restaurants, and private front stage seating.

The fiesta will be on September 17 in downtown Chandler. The event will open at 12:00 pm and close at 9:00 pm.
