Gilbert dives into folk music

One Great Afternoon of Folk Music will be coming to Gilbert early in February for the eighth year.

The performance will be a series of musical entertainment from popular Americana and folk musicians and singers.

Linda Bilque will once again be part of the lineup. Since the early 1970s, Bilque has been performing throughout Arizona and the Southwest. She continues writing songs that tell stories reminiscent of those written by Harry Chapin.

This year, Three-Legged Dog will also be performing. This acoustic string trio takes its influences from many of those that existed in the U.S. around the ‘30s and ‘40s. The three musicians employ 16-20 different kinds acoustic instruments during their performance. They play music that ranges from vintage country, Civil War-era songs, Cajun, and maybe even a little calypso.

The final act will be the duo JC and Laney. The two call themselves ‘acoustic balladeers’ and ‘Americana rockers’. Performing a high-energy fusion of folk, pop, rock, blues, and comedy, they have written and performed over 80 original compositions.
