Gilbert Days offers more than rodeo

Although the town’s annual Gilbert Days is highlighted with the rodeo, there are quite a few activities and events leading up to it.

The Gilbert Days annual parade has taken a different turn as this year it will be the “first-ever Gilbert Days Shoebox Parade,” a virtual event. Participants are to grab shoeboxes and create “floats”. Themes for the entries will be School Spirit, Commercial Businesses, Gilbert Centennial, or Front Line Heroes.

In total, 20 submissions will go online and members of the community will select a winner in each category. The winner of the commercial category will get free entry into next year’s parade. The three other theme category winners will receive $200 gift cards. A Gilbert prize package will be included for the Heroes and Centennial category winners.

All entries must be submitted by Monday, November 9 at 5:00 pm. Two weeks later, on November 23, the committee will announce the winners.

The 2020 Gilbert Half Marathon and 10K is also going virtual this year. Registration for both races will be $30 and can be done online. Runners will receive medals and black short-sleeve technical shirts sporting this year’s graphic design through the mail. Swag may be picked up at a local drive-through. The event will be online from November 6 through 21.

Other events include Matt Farris in concert on November 20 and a Dance Showcase on November 21, both in Regional Park.
