Gilbert bikers get in shape for upcoming indoor race

Camelback Crossroads and the Rotary Clubs of Tempe Rio Salado will be hosting an unusual bike ride at the end of July, in the form of the Great Tempe Bike Race.

Participating individuals and teams will be competing on stationary bikes inside a local fitness center, with prizes to be won. The event will raise money for planting trees locally and for the Rotary’s End Polio Now program.

The race will be 20-minute bike sprints. Prizes will be awarded for individual and team top mileage, individual and team largest donation, and best team spirit.

The venue will have a pool available for bikers to cool down between and after sprints. Light refreshments will be available.

The event will be free for spectators so family and friends of Gilbert biking entrants may want to bring small Banners to support their favorite riders.

July preregistration will have a $35 minimum donation fee per individual rider and $100 minimum for team donations. Teams can be composed of up to four members. Preregistration will end July 26 and although registration will be available on the day of the competition, fees will be higher.

The event is slated for Saturday, July 29 from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon. It will be at the ASU Sun Devil Fitness Center on the Tempe Campus of Arizona State University. The fitness center will provide the stationary bikes.
