Day of Service event to honor MLK

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Gilbert is having a Day of Service and a Volunteer Kick-off Open House.

Services for the Day of Service project will include recycling, light yard care, changing air filters and smoke detector batteries, carrying away Bags and Boxes for donation or trash. The project is designed to assist the elderly or those with physical limitations or limited financial resources.

Volunteers will be gathering at One Source, 1496 North Higley Road, Suite 102 from 7 to 8 am for orientation and addresses of their assignments. Services will be between 8:00 am and noon on January 15.

Those interested in volunteering on a more ongoing basis will be looking into the My Hope Bag’s 2022 Volunteer Kickoff Open House on January 15. My Hope Bag supports the breast cancer community through emotional support, regular communication, and hand-delivered Bags containing local resources and items of comfort.

Along with delivering the Bags, volunteers are also needed for the annual golf tournament, marketing, advertising, follow-ups, grant writing, phone calls, fundraising, general administrative assistance, and visits to women’s centers and doctor offices.

To get the word out for events like these, people sometimes get flyer printing done to distribute the information to neighbors, family, friends, and co-workers.

The Open House will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix/Gilbert, 3265 South Market Street.
