CashBack, a Johnny Cash cover band, is performing in Prattville’s The Lyric this weekend.
Formed in 2018 and founded by drummer and vocalist Leif Bondarenko, CashBack’s four other members include bassist Eric Onimus and two multi-instrumentalists who also provide vocals to the group: trumpeter and keyboardist Tommy Bowen, and electric and acoustic guitarist Joshua Green.
Playing hits throughout Cash’s more than half-century career in music, CashBack also features appearances by Cheyloe Martin fulfilling the June Carter Cash role for the famous country music power couple’s duets.
Cash’s songs — both original and famous renditions — include “Cry, Cry, Cry,” “Man In Black,” “I’ll Fly Away,” “Folson Prison Blues,” “Me And Baby McGee,” and “Sweet Home Alabama,” all of which are among the wide variety of numbers CashBack is known to play.
Bondarenko began his music career behind the stage’s main attraction as a drummer. However, when friends and family heard his voice, they encouraged him to take a frontman position in his musical endeavours. This helped him gain the confidence he needed to start a Cash cover band.
