Children and teens wishing to know what goes into the art of a theatrical production have the chance to learn unique skills at Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre this September.
While many elements of theater require mastery over a physical medium, like set design, the art of improv comes almost entirely from the participant’s imagination. On Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, children ages 10 to 14 are invited to join the theater’s Improv Jam Workshop.
No experience is required for this workshop teaching improvisational fundamentals. From improv games to team building exercises designed to strengthen confidence on stage, the workshop culminates in a small showcase for family and friends.
For those who enjoy running a makeup chair instead of sitting in one, the Way Off Broadway Theatre is also hosting a Strange and Spooky Special Effects Make-Up Workshop on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Designed for ages 10 to 17, the make-up workshop is led by film and TV special effects makeup artist Somica Spratley. Students will learn how to make realistic-looking effects perfect for Halloween-style transformations just days before the spooky-themed holiday. The workshop is for beginners and experienced makeup artists alike.
