The Lyric in Prattville is hosting a performance by Hank Williams IV this October.
As the great-grandson of Hank Williams Sr., Coleman Williams (also known as Hank Williams IV), continues to evolve the sound of his hit-making ancestors.
While Williams Sr. was known for his more traditional country tunes, Williams Jr. infused his music with southern rock and created more hits with a more modern sound. Then Hank Williams III — Coleman’s father — took a dramatic departure from those who came before him by infusing his sound with elements of punk and thrash metal reimagined in an outlaw country package.
Williams III’s entrenchment in the underground music culture made a huge impression on his son. Coleman came of age in the 2000s amid a DYI punk movement known as the house show scene, a circuit for up-and-coming garage bands that involved hosts offering up their homes as both a performance venue and place for the band members to crash.
The house shows drew audiences from local neighborhoods to see performances, with Coleman first attending one at age 13 in his native Nashville.
Like his father, Hank Williams IV now also weaves elements of punk rock with melodic country.
Country shows like this may choose to use flyer printing to create low-cost promotion in the community.
Hank Williams IV Band is performing on October 22 from 6 pm to 9 pm at The Lyric at Esther’s at 124 W Main St in Prattville.
